hostals in chile and argentina

on this page you will get more information about hostals in chile and argentina. what we must say ist, that we did not plan anything concerning hostals. we did not look in the internet for good places to stay. and now, afterwards, i can say, that it is really not necessary to plan this before. sometimes we needed to search for a while until we have found something, but almost everytime a more or less cheap hostal was available. in our case, we have spent many nights in our tent also.

three of our favourites

cleanness, prices and people

cleanness

who only can sleep in clean and convenient hostals / hotels, should not travel as a backpacker in chile. we were in many hostals, that wouldn't be sufficient for the bigger part of the people here. especially hostals driven by chilean were partly not so good. it seems that they sometimes do not invest more money in the hostal to conserve it. the chilean hostal itself can be an adventure! to our surpise, the hostals in argentina were much more better than in chile! and this by a cheaper price.

prices

the food (except import goods) in comparison to switzerland, is very cheap in chile. on the other hand were the hostals and hotels almost as expensive as here. and (how mentionned above) the condition of several hostals was terrible. so the most of the chilean driven hostals were clearly overpriced! in comparison to that, the prices for the hostals in argentina seemed to be fair! the hostals were in better condition and the price was cheaper.

people

what was interesting is, that a very big part of the chilean hostals are driven by europeans! sometimes in places where not many other tourists get lost, you find a hostal driven by europeans. in most cases these hostals were in much better condition, than chilean driven hostals.

regional brochures

in almost every hostal you can find brochures about the regional places of interest and other hostals. two of the biggest brochures, that try to collect the backpacker hostals of chile are the following. these brochures you can get directly on the airport (ask at the visitors counter)!

advices and rules

  • you can also find some good advice in "lonely planet":  http://www.lonelyplanet.com.
  • before booking a night in a hostal: let them show you the rooms and fix the price before!
  • ask the local people for a cheap accommodation. they know their region and could help you.
  • take brochures from a hostals information desk: so you can find collections of other good hostals.
  • you don't need to plan before. you will have enough time doing it, when you travel around!
